The new wine bar “Syrah” in San Diego is a tricky place to find. You’ll have to work hard to find the entrance door by hunting for a golden knob on a wall thick with green hedges. And of course there’s a hidden camera where patrons inside can watch and laugh at the confused visitors who haven’t figured it out yet! Intrigue draws you down, like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. Inspired by the fable, this whimsical wine bar is interesting and really transports you to an usual setting with hanging umbrellas, grass walls, and barrel lanterns.

And I can’t wait for the new Alice in Wonderland movie from Disney next year. Jonny Depp as the mad hatter? Genius… ![]()

Would love to sit there and enjoy the atmosphere
I couldn't agree more with qerat. Very creative. I guess the Alice in Wonderland feel is really catching on!
ah, can i just seriously say that every umbrella-d inch of that wine bar screams amazing? holy cow. i love the entire concept. no, more specifically what i REALLY love is that there are still people out there willing to take a risk with design, to go to the edge, to get people talking, to lure people in and then smack them in the face with creativity and wonder. wow. happy christmas to you to dale and thanks for supporting my blog as it gets going and evolves. you seem to have an amazing job and i hope you are having fun! happy new year 2 :)
I would love to go there one day, now that I know where the door knob could be!

Hi Dale
I love the Alice in Wonderland theme. The Christmas windows at Bergdorf's in New York this year featured some A in W themes. I am sure the movie is going to spark more of this classic story.
love the space. so fun.
Is Johnny D going to make a creepy version of all of my favorite childhood stories!? :)
I love this for it's whymiscal appeal. That's the power of design for you...playing with scale can make us feel so large or small...how fun!
Best,
Michelle
