I don’t usually do residential design, however I’ve had the pleasure over the last year and a half of working on the complete design of the interiors of this vacation home for one of the partner’s at the firm I work for. Please note that the house is not 100% complete, and the finishing touches and details (such as artwork, accessories, etc.) still need to be added. The photos were taken by the partner’s daughter. Despite it being a little pre-mature, I still wanted to share! Click on photos to enlarge.
Situated on beautiful Alta Lake (outside of Whistler), this house is very unique architecturally. A metal clad “angluar clam shell” shaped exterior overhangs a cliff to provide amazing views from all 3 levels.
The dramatic front entrance is lit perfectly to provide a unique experience for visitors who cross over a floating bridge to get to the front door:
The extensive use of wood (Douglas fir on the walls and Maple floors and furniture) create a warm and inviting “contemporary rustic” feeling to offset the stark forms.
The main floor is open concept, with dining room, living room combined. Red leather dining chairs and a contemporary chandelier play off the rustic nature of the rough hewn maple slab table.
View from living room with custom built in leather sofa and black slate see through fireplace. The fir walls should darken with age.![]()
Dining Room details:
There are 3 identical guest bedrooms upstairs. All custom designed beds and built ins. A hidden laundry station under granite counters in the upstairs hallway is accessible to all guests.

The master bedroom is clad in the fir walls and a custom 2 person chaise lounge to enjoy the view and fireplace and TV on adjacent wall

The master ensuite has custom built in millwork, and is clad floor to ceiling in a green glass mosaic tile blend. Matching solid glass floor is a unique touch.
Maytag washer is a wise choice for the laundry room.

Oh, go on then! I'll have a vacation there - if you insist!
Mind you: I won't want to leave.
